Smoking Cessation

There are more than 50 million Americans who smoke, and nearly 7 million more who use smokeless tobacco. In other parts of the world the numbers are greater.

There are more than 4,000 known poisons in cigarettes, any of which taken in high enough doses can kill you. One drop of pure nicotine acid will most likely kill a man. More than 440,000 people each year in the U. S. die from tobacco use. There are a myriad of other chronic illnesses and diseases that are associated with smoking:

* Emphysema
  * Lung Cancer

  * High Blood Pressure
  * Shortness of Breath

  * Chronic Cough
  * Heart Disease
  * A compromised immune system (colds and flues.)

Acupuncture is a valuable treatment in the cessation of smoking…IF you truly desire to quit. Acupuncture isn’t a panacea or a magic cure. It does, however reduce the cravings and lessen the symptoms of withdrawal associated with quitting.

You will need to develop a paradigm, make life style changes and be motivated to quit. You and your acupuncturist form a partnership to help you on the road to becoming a non-smoker.

As each patient is an individual, your treatment will be tailored to your specific needs.

Auricular acupuncture (ear) will be used to assist you in your treatments. Acupuncture points will be electrically stimulated in your ear to ease you through the process.

A patient is typically treated two to three times per week. A treatment normally lasts anywhere from twenty to thirty minutes. The treatments will focus on the jitters, the cravings, the irritability, and the restlessness that people commonly complain about when they quit smoking. It will also aid in your detoxification and relaxation. Normally ten treatments are needed to stop smoking.
